Bret Lopez

Bret Lopez, born in Los Angeles in 1948, is the grandson of J.J. Cohn and owner of the JJ Cohn Estate in Rutherford, Napa Valley, where he produces Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate's historic vines, including 2 acres planted in 1945. A former professional photographer who shot campaigns for clients like Levi's, Honda, and Coca-Cola until 1998, he transitioned to winemaking, launching Scarecrow's debut vintage in 2003 with partner Mimi DeBlasio and winemaker Celia Welch. The winery has become a cult Napa Valley producer with annual output around 400-800 cases.
