i. Biography
Etienne de Montille is the ninth-generation proprietor and winemaker of Domaine de Montille, a historic Burgundy estate in Volnay founded in the 1730s and revived by his father Hubert in 1947. Initially trained as a lawyer, he joined the domaine in 1983 after working at Chez Panisse in California, took over winemaking in 1990, became co-manager in 1995, and fully led the estate from around 1998-2002, expanding it through acquisitions to over 37 hectares while converting to organic and biodynamic farming and adding white wines. He continues to manage the domaine, producing acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from premier and grand cru sites across Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits.
