i. Biography
Jungsik Yim is the chef and proprietor of Jungsik New York in Tribeca, which earned three Michelin stars in 2024 as the first Korean restaurant outside Korea to achieve this, and Jungsik (originally Jungsikdang) in Seoul's Apgujeong district, opened in 2009. A pioneer of 'New Korean' cuisine blending traditional Korean ingredients with French and Western techniques, he became the first Korean chef to win the James Beard Outstanding Chef Award in 2025. Born in Suwon, South Korea, his career began during military service on Maldo island, leading to studies at the Culinary Institute of America and apprenticeships at Aquavit, Bouley, Zuberoa, and Akelarre.
