Patrick O'Connell is a self-taught chef and sole proprietor of The Inn at Little Washington, which he opened in 1978 in a former gas station in Little Washington, Virginia, transforming it into a three Michelin-starred restaurant recognized as one of the world's top dining destinations. A native of Washington, DC, he began with a catering business in the 1970s alongside Reinhardt Lynch before pioneering refined regional American cuisine using local ingredients. He has received five James Beard Awards, including Outstanding Chef in America in 2001, Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic in 1993, and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019, along with the National Humanities Medal in 2019.
